Eublemma purpurinum ( also incorrectly Eublemma purpurina [Note 1] ) is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of cutworms ( Noctuidae ). Occasionally the German name Purple Zwergeulchen used.

Features

Butterfly

The wingspan of the moth is about 20 to 26 mm. Thus they belong to the smaller owls butterflies. The forewings are bright yellow in the root field. Following a sharp line is followed by a light pink merging into purple Postdiskalregion that runs color extends into the apex and is delimited by the thick and irregularly serrated wavy line to the most commonly light brown Submarginalregion. Pin, ring and kidney blemishes are not available. The hind wings are visually marked in the root field light and go to Saumfeld in a gray- brown tint on. The outer edge is formed from fine hairs. Occasionally specimens appear with a total paler coloring and whitish hind wings.

Caterpillar, and chrysalis

The caterpillars are pale green colored with slightly blackish tints plated, have indistinct, yellowish - back and side- back lines and small- point warts with very long, yellowish hairs. The head is black. The doll has a sleek shape and has two very short, curved, fine bristles at the blunt, beveled cremaster.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The distribution of the species extends from North West Africa via the Iberian Peninsula and southern France east to Romania, South Russia, the southern Turkey to western Central Asia. The northern European distribution in the Valais region, in eastern Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Eublemma purpurinum is found on warm, dry sites.

Way of life

The moths fly in two generations in May and June and in August and September. The caterpillars live in March and April and in July. Food plant of the caterpillar is the creeping thistle ( Cirsium arvense).

Endangering

Eublemma purpurinum is not native to Germany. Occasional immigrations back many years. On the red list of endangered species it is classified as Irrgast (Category M).
