Eucharistic Congress

With Eucharistic Congress a multi-day meeting is called at the international level in the Roman Catholic Church. Through the Eucharistic Congress Eucharistic worship is to be promoted and deepened the world among believers. It is each headed by the Pope or on behalf of a cardinal.

End of the 19th century took the initiative for such events by the Catholic Church in France. The first International Congress organized Philibert Vrau with the support of Pope Leo XIII. in Lille. The Eucharistic Congresses are designated with consecutive numbering. They take place at intervals of one to three years. During the two world wars and in the post-war period until 1952, these international faith meeting did not take place.

In Germany so far two of these international congresses have taken place; the 20th International Eucharistic Congress from 4 to 8 August 1909 in Cologne and the 37th International Eucharistic Congress from July 31 to August 7, 1960 in Munich.
