Eugen Rosshirt

Johann Eugen Rosshirt ( born November 11, 1795 in Oberscheinfeld; † July 13, 1872 in Erlangen, Germany ) was a German gynecologist and obstetrician.

Life

Rosshirt studied at the University of Würzburg Medicine, where he co-founded the Corps Bavaria Würzburg. After graduation he worked in midwifery training and as prosector at the surgeon school in Bamberg. In 1833 he followed as a full professor the surgeon Michael Hunter ( 1795-1838 ) as Director of the Obstetric Clinic of the University of Erlangen. He held until 1868 this position was succeeded by Karl Schroeder ( 1838-1887 ).

Through lecture activities and the enforcement of a new hospital building itself Rosshirt sat in Erlangen for the establishment of gynecology as a separate subject, his successor Karl Schroeder led this effort with the first clinic locations exclusively for gynecological cases continued.

In 1867 he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Erlangen.
