Eugene James Keogh

Eugene James Keogh (born 30 August 1907 in Brooklyn, New York, † May 26, 1989 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1937 and 1967 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Eugene James Keogh was born about seven years before the outbreak of World War I in Brooklyn. He attended public schools and the Commercial High School in Brooklyn. Keogh graduated in 1927 at the Business School of New York University and in 1930 at the School of Law at Fordham University in New York City. In the years 1927 and 1928 he taught at public schools in New York City. Between 1928 and 1930 he worked as a clerk in the New York City Board of Transportation. He worked as a law clerk in 1930 and 1931. His admission to the bar he received in 1932 and then began to practice in New York City. In 1936 he sat in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1936 for the 75th Congress, he was in the ninth election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Stephen A. Rudd on 4 January 1937. He was re-elected 14 times in a row. Since he gave up for reelection in 1966, he retired after January 3, 1967 out of the Congress. As a Congressman he had presided over the Committee on Revision of the Laws ( 76th to 79th Congress ).

After his time Congress he resumed his activities as a lawyer. Between 1973 and 1976 he was a member of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board. He lived until his death on 26 May 1989 in New York City.
