Eugène Turpin

François Eugène Turpin (* 1848 in Paris, † January 24, 1927 in Pontoise ) was a French chemist who researched explosives. He lived in Colombes, near Paris.

He discovered the explosive properties of picric acid, which was the first exploding, explosive Geschossfüllmittel, and was used from 1886 as Lyddit, ekrasit, Schimose or melinite.

In October 1896 he felt maligned drapeau ( The Deadly Invention ) in Jules Verne's novel Face au and filed a lawsuit. Verne was defended by Raymond Poincaré and acquitted in December 1896 in the first instance and in March 1897 in the second instance.
