Eugênio German

Eugênio Maciel German (born 24 October 1930 in Ubá, Brazil, † April 1, 2001 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil ) was a Brazilian chess player.

1949 won a match against German Eugênio Jayme Schreibman Moses in Belo Horizonte ( 2, -1, = 1). In the same year he was divided at the 17th Brasiliansischen Championship in Rio de Janeiro 3 -4 ( winner was Walter Cruz ). In 1950 he was at the 18th Brazilian Championship, again in Rio de Janeiro, shared 5 - 6th ( it won Jose Thiago Mangini ). The following year he finally won the 19th edition of the competition in Fortaleza. 1951/52, he arrived at a tournament in San Rafael fourth place ( Erich Eliskases conquered). In 1952, he was split 7 -8. ( Julio won Bolbochán and Héctor Rossetto ) at a tournament in Mar del Plata. In the same year he was in São Paulo behind Flavio de Carvalho Jr. shared 2nd - 3rd at the 20th Brazilian Championship.

In 1960 he won in Belo Horizonte, a qualifying tournament for the South American Zone Tournament. In the same year he was at the zone tournament in Sao Paulo shared 3rd - 5th ( Julio Bolbochán won ). In 1961, he won ahead of Rodrigo Flores and Bernardo Wexler the zone tournament playoff and qualified for the interzonal in Stockholm 1962., Where he reached the divided 19th - 20th Place. In the years 1963 and 1965 he still won two tournaments in Belo Horizonte, and in 1972 he won the 39th Brazilian Championship in Blumenau.

Eugenio took German for Brazil in three Chess Olympiads:

  • At the Chess Olympiad 1952 in Helsinki on the first board ( 6, -2, = 3);
  • At the Chess Olympiad 1968 in Lugano on the second board ( 5, -7, = 3);
  • At the Chess Olympiad 1972 in Skopje on first board ( 8, -4, = 8).

In 1952 he was awarded the title of International Master by FIDE, which he became the first Brazilian carrier of this title.
