Euphemia de Ross

Euphemia de Ross ( † 1386 ) was Queen of Scotland.

She was born the daughter of Aodh, Earl of Ross and his wife Matilda Bruce, sister of the Scottish king Robert I..

In her first marriage she was married to John Randolph, 3rd Earl of Moray. The marriage remained childless and the Count died in 1346. She remained a widow for nine years.

On May 2, 1355, she was with Robert Stuart, later Scottish King Robert II, married. Her husband was the only son of Walter Stuart and his wife, Marjorie Bruce, Countess of Carrick, a daughter of King Robert I., with whom she had already used on her mother. For the marriage had to because of its close relationship with Pope Innocent VI. be asked for dispensation to be recognized by the Catholic Church.

The couple had five children:

  • Walter Stuart, First Earl of Atholl
  • Margaret Stuart
  • Elisabeth Stuart ∞ David Lindsay, first Earl of Crawford
  • Egidia Stuart ∞ Sir William Douglas of Nithsdale

Euphemia died in 1386 and was buried in Paisley Abbey.
