Euphrosyne Parepa-Rosa

Euphrosyne Parepa Pink ( born May 7, 1836 in Edinburgh, † January 21, 1874 in London) was an English opera singer (soprano ).

Life

Parepa was the daughter of the soprano Elizabeth Seguin and the Wallachian prince Demetrius Parepa. She made her debut 18 years old at the Royal Opera House of Malta as Amina in Vincenzo Bellini's La sonnambula. From 1853 to 1857 she appeared in Naples, Genoa, Rome, Florence, Madrid and Lisbon. In 1857 she was engaged at the Royal Italian Opera in London, where she made her debut as Elvira in Bellini's I Puritani. Between 1859 and 1865 she appeared regularly at Covent Garden and Her Majesty's Theatre in London. She was also a 1862-1865 soloists at the London Handel Festival.

Between 1863 and 1865 undertook Parepa with Max Maretzeks Opera Company toured the U.S.. 1866, she undertook a concert tour of the USA with the cornetist Jules Levy and the violinist and conductor Carl Rosa. The following year she married Rosa and founded with him the Parepa Rose Grand English Opera Company, which she headed with him as an impresario. The Company toured 1869-1872 many large cities in the United States.

1872 joined Parepa Pink on the Lower Rhine Music Festival in Dusseldorf and sang at Covent Garden Opera Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni. Due to health problems in the same year she took leave of the stage, but still sang in 1874 at the Drury Lane Theatre, the Elsa in Richard Wagner's Lohengrin. After her death, Carl Rosa donated to the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Parepa Pink Scholarship to promote penniless gifted singer.
