Eupompus

Eupompos ( Εὔπομπος ancient Greek, Latinized Eupompus, German also Eupomp ) was a Greek painter of antiquity. He lived in the 4th century BC and was the founder of the school of painters of Sicyon. Among his most famous pupils was Pamphilus, who in turn was teacher of Apelles.

The creation of Eupompos marked the division of the ancient Greek painting in the ionic sekyonische and Attic school. The only known work of his hand is the image of a winner in sports competition with a palm branch in his hand.

From his life and work, we are taught only by Pliny the Elder. This narrated the anecdote that Eupompos the Lysippos on the back question, which artist he should imitate, had merely shown and recommended a crowd, only to emulate nature itself, no other artist.
