European Climate Forum

The Global Climate Forum (GCF; previously: European Climate Forum, ECF) is an international association of research institutes, NGOs, businesses and individual scientists who deal with climate issues. The GCF leading business enterprises that are interested in this subject, political representatives and various non-governmental organizations. The vision of GCFs is to stimulate an open debate on controversial issues and to ensure that such debates are fruitful.

Establishment and organization

The network was established in September 2001 as the European Climate Forum of seven research institutions at the initiative of Carlo C. Jaeger (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research - PIK ) founded and Klaus Hasselmann ( Max Planck Institute for Meteorology ).

As increasingly involved non-European entities and members, the European Climate Forum 2011 in Global Climate Forum (GCF ) has been renamed.

The GCF is regulated and managed by a Management Board and a Council. The Supervisory Board consists of at least four but not more than seven members, including the chairman and deputy chairman. The members are elected for two years; thereby re-election is possible.

Work and goals

The main work of the GCF is to formulate joint studies and projects and perform. Here for thought, concepts and answers to climate issues are to be designed as well as possible policy approaches that permit sustainable development are being developed.

The groups with which it interacts GCF regularly are:

  • Energy industry as well as wholesale energy consumers
  • Companies in the " Renewable Energy "
  • Insurance and finance companies
  • Person in charge of policy
  • Non-governmental organizations, in particular in the field of environmental
  • Scientist

Board of Directors

The Board shall be composed as follows:

  • Peter Hoeppe ( Munich Re )
  • Antonio Navarra (Centro Euro - Mediterraneo per i Cambiamenti Climatici )

Council

The Council consists of a maximum of seven members, who are usually elected for three years.

The Global Climate Forum is a non- profit organization. Membership is open to any institution or group that agrees with the Statute of the GCF.
