European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy
The Commissioner of Health was an official designation for a Commissioner of the European Union. He was affiliated to the Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection. The department was established in 1999 with responsibility for Health and Consumer Protection and divided after EU enlargement in 2007.
In the Barroso II Commission both departments were combined again in 2010. Current Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy is Tonio Borg. Moreover, since also the area covered drug, which was previously in the enterprise and industry, within the jurisdiction of the Commissioner.
