European Committee for Banking Standards

The European Committee for Banking Standards ( ECBS, European Committee for standards in the banking sector ) was an organization whose stated goal was to design standards and guidelines for standardization in the banking sector.

History and composition

The European Committee for Banking Standards was formed in December 1992 by three European associations:

  • Banking Federation of the European Union ( EBF),
  • European Association of Co-operative Banks ( EACB )
  • European Savings Banks Group ( ESBG ).

The ECSAs put the interests of European banks from the EU countries, the European Economic Area (EEA ) and the European Free Trade Association ( EFTA) dar.

The ECBS had agreed to cooperate with the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute ).

In 2004, the ECBS closely with the European Payments Council (EPC) began to work, and went in 2006 to this. The site was taken over by another organization that is no longer pursuing the objectives of the original ECBS.

Task

The primary objective of the ECBS was to develop the European payments on. These standards have been developed to meet the needs of the economy and trade justice.

The ECBS created technical reports and standard implementation guidelines. This should be supportive in the development of payment applications.

At European and international levels monitored the ECBS standardization activities which may have an impact on the European payments. To put the ECBS a forum for opinion formation of the European banking sector for the development of various standards.
