The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA ) is a European federation of national associations of research pharmaceutical companies as well as individual pharmaceutical companies.

Members

According to EFPIA, the association represents, directly or indirectly, the interests of approximately 2,200 research-based pharmaceutical companies. As the national associations of the Association of Research- Based Pharmaceutical Companies, Austria for the Association of the Austrian Chemical Industry and for Switzerland scienceindustries and the Inter- Pharma are represented, among others, for Germany.

As individual companies of EFPIA include Abbott Laboratories, Almirall, Amgen, Astellas Pharma, AstraZeneca, Baxter International, Bayer HealthCare, Biogen Idec, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol -Myers Squibb, Celgene, Chiesi Farmaceutici, Daiichi Sankyo, Eisai, Eli Lilly, Esteve, Genzyme, GlaxoSmithKline, Grünenthal, Ipsen, Johnson & Johnson, Lundbeck, Menarini, MSD Sharp & Dohme, Merck, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Orion Oyj, Pfizer, Recordati, Roche, sanofi, Servier, Takeda, UCB.

Structure

President of EFPIA is Christopher A. Viehbacher ( Sanofi ), Vice- President are Roch Doliveux ( UCB) and Joseph Jimenez (Novartis).

Important tasks

The central task of EFPIA is to improve the competitiveness of the research-based pharmaceutical companies in Europe in the regulatory and policy environment. Among other things, the EFPIA is also a founding member of the International Conference on Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use. In this forum, have been harmonized in cooperation of regulatory authorities and pharmaceutical organizations, the Food and Drug between the European Union, the USA and Japan.
