European History Online

European History Online (EGO ) is a freely available open-access site that publishes scientific contributions to the history of Europe, 1450-1950. EGO is published by the Leibniz Institute for European History in Mainz in cooperation with the Competence Center for Electronic Processing and Publication in the Humanities at the University of Trier and the Bavarian State Library in Munich. The editorial board is composed of the two directors of the Institute as well as 25 other European scientists in historically oriented disciplines. The project is funded by the State of Rhineland -Palatinate and the German Research Foundation.

Concept

EGO considers the European modern history of transcultural / transnational perspective and about the subjects and methods boundaries. The contributions in German and English are available with different materials associated context ( pictures, maps, videos, digitized sources, music, etc.) and bundled into ten thematic threads (threads):

  • Theories and methods: Methodological and theoretical approaches to a transcultural history of Europe
  • Background: Europe as a space of communication - Conditions and backgrounds
  • Crossroads: Rooms compressed communication
  • Models and Stereotypes: Constructing models and stereotypes in intercultural transfer processes
  • Europe on the move: migrants and travelers as mediators of intercultural transfers
  • European media: Media and media events
  • European networks: transfer of ideas, techniques and practices in personal relationship networks
  • Transnational movements and organizations: groups with cross-border programs and structures
  • Alliances and War: Defence and learning processes through military victories and defeats
  • Europe and the world: links and reflections between "Europe" and the non-European world
