European Museum of the Year Award

Founded in 1977, The European Museum Forum is awarded annually to a museum as the European Museum of the Year. The price is under the patronage of Queen Fabiola de Mora y Aragon of Belgium and is usually awarded in cooperation with the Council of Europe Museum Prize.

The prize is awarded to a newly opened museum or a museum recently been completely modernized exhibition either. The jury pays particular attention to imaginative interpretation and presentation, facilities, finance, social responsibility, awareness training, marketing and management. The award-winning museum receives for one year, the sculpture of Henry Moore The Egg loan.

From the range of applications, the prize committee published a list of nominated candidates, among which in addition to the winner of the European Museum of the Year Award, the technology historically oriented Micheletti Prize, the Prize of the Council of Europe and other Special commendations are selected. Since 2010, the Trustees cause of the European Museum Forum the Kenneth Hudson Award, the first prize winner is the Museum of Contraception and Abortion in Vienna. 2011, the prize was awarded to the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb.
