European Parliament Committee on Industry, Research and Energy

The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (English Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, ITRE ) is one of the twenty standing committees of the European Parliament. Committee chairman is since 26 January 2012, the Italian Amalia Sartori (EPP ).

The Committee is responsible for industrial policy of the European Union and is particularly committed to the promotion of new technologies and small and medium enterprises. He also deals with the research policy of the Union, in particular the Research Framework Programme and the activities of the Joint Research Centre, Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements, the Joint European Torus, the experimental reactor ITER and other projects. The EU space policy under the EU -ESA agreement falls under the jurisdiction of the Committee. It is also subject to the European energy policy, including the trans -European networks in the energy infrastructure sector. Also, all questions concerning the Euratom shall be treated by the ITRE Committee, as well as the areas of information society and information technology, including trans-European telecommunications networks.

Due to its wide field of responsibility and the fact that the European Parliament in virtually all of its fields has full co-decision powers in the EU legislation, the Committee applies for industry, research and energy as one of the most important committees of the Parliament. At the Council of the European Union and the European Commission of the range must be distributed over several subsidiary bodies: In the Council, either the Competitiveness Council or the Council of Transport, Telecommunications and Energy are responsible to the Commission, there are four members, namely the Commissioner for enterprise and Industry, European Commissioner for Science and Research, the energy Commissioner and the Commissioner for information Society and Media, which may be responsible depending on the topic.
