European Parliament Committee on Legal Affairs

The Legal Affairs Committee (JURI ) is one of the twenty standing committees of the European Parliament. Committee Chairman since the European elections of 2009, the German Klaus- Heiner Lehne (EPP ).

The Committee (ie, the EU Treaty and the EC Treaty, in particular the choice of the legal basis and the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality principles ) deals with the interpretation and application of international law and European law and the conformity of acts of the European Union with primary law. He is also responsible for the regulation in the areas of civil law, commercial law, company law, intellectual property, and procedural law and for judicial cooperation in civil matters ( JZZ ). It deals with the statutes of the MEPs and the EU staff and is responsible for issues relating to the political immunity of MEPs. He also maintains relations of the European Parliament with the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market.
