European Society of Gynaecological Oncology

The European Society of Gynaecological Oncology ( ESGO ) is a pan-European association of doctors, physicians and scientists who specialize in the research, prevention, treatment and care of gynecologic cancers. The association comprising more than 1,400 members from over 40 European countries, was founded in 1983 in Venice, Italy.

Task

The purpose of the ESGO is the "promotion of communication with scientific and professional associations, with the aim of creating a dynamic and democratic European platform for the collegial collaboration of specialists and health professionals. Other objectives are to establish contacts, to impart knowledge and to achieve an improvement in the quality of gynecologic oncology at the European level. "

Field of activity

On the taking place every two years, the Conference of the ESGO meet regularly more than 1,500 participants. It provides health professionals and scientists from all over Europe who are active in the field of gynecologic oncology, opportunity to contact, talk, discussion and dissemination of new medical and scientific studies in gynecologic oncology. In addition to their meetings, the ESGO also organized throughout the year numerous training events, workshops and meetings and awards travel grants to its members.

The ESGO also committed to the creation of educational materials such as videos, DVDs and information transmitted over the Internet lectures for physicians.

Within the ESGO the " European Network of Gynaecological Oncological Trial Groups ( ENGOT ) " deals with European coordination and promotion of clinical studies on patients suffering from gynecological cancers.

Training and Accreditation

In cooperation with the " European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology ( EBCOG ) " and on behalf of the European specialist medical association ( UEMS ) ESGO offers a certification for trained gynecological oncologists and appropriate accredited training facilities.

The training and accreditation programs for gynecological oncology ESGO are available in a number of European countries recognized standard.

Journal

The official scientific organ of the ESGO, the " International Journal of Gynecological Cancer ( IJGC ) ", published every two months and deals with topics related to gynecologic cancers, such as studies, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, diagnostic procedures, pathology, epidemiology, and surgery.
