Eustace (bishop of Ely)

Eustace († 1215 in Ely ) was Lord Chancellor and Keeper of the Seals of England ( 1197-1199 ) under the reign of King Richard the Lionheart. He was Dean of Salisbury and Bishop of Ely from 1197.

Life

Eustace was educated in Paris. From birth he was probably Norman. Eustace was by Richard I to Philip II to him notify the end of the ceasefire in January 1199. With the death of King Richard and the accession of King John, he was replaced as Lord Chancellor by Hubert Walter. The king puts him continue for a Diplomatic Missions, he was among other things a few more times with the King of France.

Eustace died during the fair in February 1215th He was buried in the altar of St. Mary near Ely Cathedral.
