Formation related to the Year of Faith

With the Apostolic Letter Porta fidei of 11 October 2011, Pope Benedict XVI announced. (2005-2012) to a Year of Faith for 2012. During this time "should be reflected more deeply about faith, to help all who believe in Christ, to have their consent to the Gospel conscious and become stronger, especially in a moment of profound change, as just seen him humanity. ". The Synod of Bishops had gathered in October 2012 for its 13th Annual General Assembly in Rome and was held under the motto " new evangelization for the transmission of the faith " (cf. No. 14), as it had already been announced in Porta fidei.

The Year of Faith ended on November 24, 2013 with a final event in Rome, at the same time published the Apostolic Letter Pope Francis Gospel gaudium and thus presented an Exhortation on the proclamation of the Gospel in the world today.

Question and intention

Pope Francis concludes with his reflections on the preaching of the Gospel in today's world to the views expressed by him in the past hints and reviews and intends to use the clerics, the consecrated persons and the laity food for thought about the state of the world, the Catholic Church and to give to the proclamation of the Gospel.

He points out the Apostolic Letter is consistent with the desire of the participants in the Synod of Bishops (EC [ Gaudium Gospel, chapter ] No. 16). It can be considered as a result, also known as a " Post-Synodal Apostolic Letter ". The following questions should be dealt with in detail (EC # 17 ):

  • The reform of the Church in the missionary awakening
  • The temptations of pastoral workers
  • The church, understood as the totality of evangelizing God's people
  • The sermon and their preparation
  • The social inclusion of the poor
  • The peace and social dialogue
  • The spiritual rationale for the mission work

These questions would give an important impetus substantially. The Pope avoids direct instructions or orders. He cuts the thematic areas, explains their importance and gives possible solutions to the addressees on. In the sub-section " concerns and limitations of this letter ," he explains, it was not appropriate that the Pope local bishops to be replaced in the evaluation of all problem areas that emerged in their areas. In this sense, he felt " the need to move forward in a wholesome, decentralization '." (EC No. 16)
