Evelyn Ankers

Evelyn Ankers ( born August 17, 1918 in Valparaíso, Chile, † August 29, 1985 in Maui, Hawaii) was a British actress. She starred in numerous horror films and was known as " Queen of the Screamers ". Life

Her childhood spent Evelyn Ankers in Chile until their parents in 1928 went back to England. She said at that time very little English, but was able to adapt quickly. Her training as an actress, she was at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. After that, she appeared in several British films, mostly in smaller roles. In 1940 she went to America. She first worked on Broadway and was then recruited for the film, first by MGM, but where she appeared in a film, then for Universal Studios. There she made ​​numerous "B" horror films of Universal horror series with known quantities such as Lon Chaney Jr., Basil Rathbone and Bela Lugosi, but also with Abbott and Costello. Her most famous film is The Wolf Man (Eng. The Wolf Man, 1941), in which they performed together Lon Chaney Jr., Bela Lugosi and Claude Rains. He launched a whole series of " Wolf Man movies ." After 1945, her career was slow, and in 1950 she moved more and more into private life, but still had appearances in several television series of the 50s.

Since 1942, she was married to actor Richard Denning (Hawaii Five-O ), with whom she also stood in front of the camera. Their first film together was Black Beauty (1946 ) and her last No Greater Love ( 1960). The couple had a daughter, Dee ( b. 1945 ). Evelyn Ankers died in 1985 of uterine cancer.
