Everett is a city in Middlesex County in the state of the United States, Massachusetts in the United States near Boston. The population is 41,667 people according to the 2010 census. Everett is the only remaining city in the U.S. with a two-chamber system, which is composed of a seven-member Board of Aldermen and a 18-member Common Council.

Geography

Expansion of the urban area

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of ​​9.5 square kilometers (3.7 square miles), of which 8.8 square kilometers ( 3.4 square miles) land and 0.7 square miles ( 0.3 square miles) of water surface (equivalent to 7.63% of the total area ).

History

Everett was originally a part of Charlestown and Malden later. The city was named after the politician and teacher Edward Everett. With the visit of George Washington in the town of the former Hospital Hill was renamed George Washington Hill.

Population Development

Based on the census of 2000, Everett had 38 037 inhabitants spread over 15 435 households and 9,554 families. The population density was 11,241 people per square mile, or 4,345 persons per square kilometer. There were 15,908 housing units at a density of 4,701 units per square mile ( 1,817 units per square kilometer).

Board of Aldermen

The Common Council consists of 18 members, of whom three are elected from a ward. The body is responsible for most of the aspects of the legislature.
