Evergestis pechi

Evergestis pechi is a butterfly of the family of Crambiden ( Crambidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 28-30 millimeters. The type is similar to the western populations of Evergestis frumentalis in size, shape and color. The wings are somewhat narrower and the drawing is easier and more defined. The Ante median line is sharply angled and clearly. The Postmedia line is notched, basad of which run different lengths of white lines.

In the males, the shaft of the uncus tapers not. The tip is blunt and slightly warty. The Gnathos tapers to a sharp point and is provided with a series of proximally directed teeth extending beyond the middle of the shaft. There, the tooth row extends to a field much smaller teeth. The Valven are parallel walls, the apex is rounded. The clamp member ( Clasper ) has the form of a low, triangular sclerotization to which a field adjacent with long, stiff bristles. In females, the corpus bursae is irregularly pear-shaped, the base is directed backwards. The signals are very large. The ductus bursae is narrow and bent. Before long, sclerotized Colliculum there are two small sclerotized lobes.

Dissemination

Evergestis pechi is native to North Africa and Jordan. In addition, there are individual records of Malta ( Mriehel 1951 Valetta 1953, Sammut 2003) and from the Spanish provinces of Huelva, Málaga ( Goater 2003) and Almería.

Biology

Chrétien was in the province of Biskra ( Algeria) and in the government of Gafsa (Tunisia ) moths from March to May The caterpillars feed on the flowers and especially the pods of Sisymbrium irio, Diplotaxis Harra and other cruciferous plants. In a nest of caterpillars hatched after about ten days and pupated after 23 to 28 days. The egg-shaped, hard cocoon is made of white silk, are woven into the sand particles.
