Everything2

Everything2 (also known as E2 for short) is an online community that consists of a linked material with each of the users. E2 is moderated for quality there, but has no restriction on the part of subjects. The contributions to E2 have with encyclopedic articles, diary entries, humor and like a wide range.

History

The predecessor of E2 was a similar database called Everything (later referred to as Everything1 or short- E1), which was launched in March 1998 by Nathan Oostendorp. Initially this site was associated with near Slashdot. The software offers many more functions of E2, and so all data from E1 were twice integrated into E2 ( in November 1999 and January 2000). The E2 servers that were in colocation operation with those of Slashdot, which meant that when you buy from Slashdot by OSDN the server abruptly went offline. After E2 November-December was not available, E2 was hosted by the University of Michigan. In February 2007, the server changed to the nearby Michigan State University.

E2 is operated by Bloc Ksta thickener Intergalactic, but by his own admission makes no profit. By mid-2007 accepted E2 donations of money or hardware, but this is not done more. Some of the administrators have no reference to Bloc Ksta thickener, other. The site is not "democratic", but all the user rights are set by the Administrators without consultation with the community.

Guidelines

Some leaders of E2 see it as a publication, may contribute to the authors with submitting content. Although Everything2 not trying to be an encyclopedia, a great deal of factual content in Everything2 has been published.

Dealing with copyrights

The copyright of an article remains with the author of the content. The only regulation that affects copyright law, the page gives the right to publish. Authors retain their right to other platforms to publish the work under a free license such as Creative Commons or GNU or deleted your post later.

Remuneration

The remuneration system of E2 similar to that of role-playing games. Users can gain experience points (XP) for level up or convertible currency ( "GP "). Five experience points correspond to a post. Users with more than 10 articles and more than 500 points can evaluate contributions positive or negative. Due to positive reviews, the author gets extra points.

Software

E2 is powered by the open source engine Everything Engine, a Perl - based system. Data is stored in a MySQL database.
