Exarch

The Exarchate is a church management area of ​​the Orthodox and Catholic- Uniate churches, it is headed by an exarch.

The Exarchate be entertained for believers outside of the ordinary areas of their churches (see Diaspora ) and may extend over one or more countries. There are, for example, a Greek Orthodox and Russian Orthodox Exarchate in Germany, but also an Apostolic Exarchate of the Ukrainian Catholics of the Byzantine rite.

The name is derived from the Byzantine administrative district Exarchate.
