Executive Yuan

The Executive Yuan (Chinese行政院, Pinyin Xingzheng yuan, executive Court ') is one of the five Yuan ( State Councils ) of the Republic of China on Taiwan in Taipei, the executive branch of government, and comparable to a cabinet. There are also Yuan for the legislative, judicial, inspection and testing.

Organization and Structure

The Executive Yuan is ( President of the Executive Yuan Chinese [中华民国]行政院 院长, Pinyin [ Zhōnghuámínguó ] Xingzheng yuan Yuànzhǎng, English) led by the Prime Minister of the Republic of China. This has the function of government, and is therefore also known as Prime Minister ( [台湾]阁揆, [ Táiwān ] Gékuí ) known. Furthermore, the Panel has a vice president and eleven cabinet ministers as members, plus a number of Commission Chairperson and five to nine minister without responsibility. The Vice- Chairman, the Minister and the Chairman shall be appointed on the proposal of the Prime Minister by the President.

The foundation has its origins in the Three Principles of the People of the founder Sun Yat-sen, and was adapted constitutionally over the years to reflect the legal situation in Taiwan.

Occupation by protesters in March 2014

On the evening of March 23, 2014 the building of the Executive Yuan was briefly occupied in the course of a student protest movement against a controversial trade and services agreement between Taiwan and China under the ECFA of protesters. The building was vacated in the early morning of the following day by the police, which led to violent clashes.
