Exincourt

Exincourt is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Exincourt is located on 323 m, about 3 km east of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the basin of Montbeliard, on the southern edge of the wide valley of Allan, at the northern foot of a hill, which separates the valleys of Allan and Doubs.

The area of ​​3.45 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the basin of Montbéliard on the southern edge of the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The northern part of the area occupied by the nearly two -mile-wide valley of Allan, which is on average 320 m. Previously the course of the River Allan formed the northern border. However, this was merged with the waterways of the Rhine- Rhône canal and moved to the south, so now north of the waterway and highway includes parts of the Peugeot area (Sochaux ) to Exincourt.

To the south, the land rises slightly to the hill of Exincourt, which is located at about 340-350 m. It is dissected through the incision of a former tram into a western and an eastern part. On a hill east of the village is achieved with 382 m the highest elevation of Exincourt. History

The first mention of Exincourt was in 1150 under the name Assincurt. Since the Middle Ages Exincourt belonged to the territory of the Counts of Montbéliard. The Reformation was introduced in 1538 in the village. With the annexation of the county of Montbeliard the village came in 1793 final in French hands.

In the 19th century, iron ore was mined and processed at Exincourt in the iron works of Audi Court. During the 19th century, Exincourt developed into an industrial site. Among the traditional industries, the watch industry (up to 1925) and the textile factory, founded in 1893 by the industrialist dynasty Japy were (originally a cotton mill ), which had to close its operation in 1989. Attractions

The Reformed Church was built in 1846 in an elevated position above the village. The Château Sahler was built in 1903 as a villa for a family of industrialists and now houses the Centre Interprofessionnel de promotion économique et sociale ( Cipes ).

Population

With 3162 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Exincourt belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the second half of the 19th century in the range between 300 and 400 people, sat from 1900 to 1930 a marked increase in population a. Towards the end of the 19th century Exincourt developed into a characteristically industrial community. Since the 1970s, various industrial and commercial zones have been established. The village has good transport developed. It is located on a secondary road that leads from Montbéliard to Étupes. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about 1 km. Further road links exist with Sochaux, Audi Court and Taillecourt.
