Expedition 24

ISS Expedition 24 mission is the designation for the 24 long-term crew of the International Space Station ( ISS). The mission began on 2 June 2010 with the uncoupling of the spaceship Soyuz TMA -17 from the ISS. Originally, the end should be marked on 24 September 2010 by the uncoupling of Soyuz TMA -18. Due to a technical defect in the coupling mechanism, however, Alexander Skvortsov, Tracy Caldwell Dyson and Mikhail Korniyenko could not undock September 24, 2010 and had to return to the ISS again. The second decoupling attempt a day later on 25 September 2010 passed without any problems. Soyuz TMA -18 landed against 5:23 clock UTC in the Kazakh steppe near Arkalyk.

Team

Flight crew

  • Alexander Alexandrovich Skvortsov ( first space flight), Commander ( Russia / Roscosmos ) ( Soyuz TMA -18)
  • Mikhail Borisovich Korniyenko ( first space flight), flight engineer ( Russia / Roscosmos ) ( Soyuz TMA -18)
  • Ellen Tracy Caldwell Dyson ( second space flight ), aircraft engineer (USA / NASA) ( Soyuz TMA -18)

  • Shannon Walker ( first space flight ), aircraft engineer (USA / NASA) ( Soyuz TMA -19)
  • Douglas Harry Wheelock ( second space flight), flight engineer (USA / NASA) ( Soyuz TMA -19)

After the departure of Skvortsov, Caldwell Dyson and Korniyenko Wheelock took command and formed with Walker and Yurchikhin the initial crew of the ISS Expedition 25

Backup crew

The backup crew of ISS Expedition recruited from the backup crews of the Soyuz shuttle respective spaceships ( see there). If everything is going according to plan, these teams two Soyuz missions and thus two ISS expeditions are then usually later for regular use.
