As Discovery Travel and equipped expeditions are usually referred to land and water, serve the discovery, research and development of remote countries, landscapes, mountains or islands.

Most expeditions were planned and deliberate. Sometimes, however, also played a role in the accident. Many expeditions there are written records, so it was possible to assign the geographical discoveries of a person. Some of them were named after their first discoverer, such as the Cook Islands and the Barents Sea.
