Expo '75

The International Ocean Exposition (Japanese冲 縄 国际 海洋 博 覧 会, Okinawa kokusai Kaiyo hakurankai, dt " International Maritime Exhibition Okinawa " ) with the theme "The Sea We Would Like To See" took place from July 20 1975 until January 18, 1976 in the city Motobu place on the Japanese island of Okinawa Honto. She was so open 183 days long.

The Underwater World Expo has become a landmark in the history of this development. Japan was here with enormous expense an overview of all areas of underwater technology and ocean development. Construction

The exhibition area was located in the city Motobu, between the two villages Nakajin and Nago, on the peninsula, 80 kilometers north of Naha, the largest city of Okinawa.

The exhibition showed in 4 areas a variety of new technologies for harnessing the ocean and its colonization. The areas were designated as " Ships", " Peoples and History ," " Science and Technology" and "Fish".

In addition, a Aquapolis called sea city was built at a distance of 200 meters off the coast of the Japanese architect Kiyonori Kikutake. The construction cost for this amounted to 12.3 billion yen (then approx. DM 100 million), with the sea city was visited during the exhibition of a little more than 2 million.

Over thirty countries were represented with a booth, among which Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, Egypt, German Democratic Republic, Guatemala, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Korea, Malta, Monaco, Morocco, Philippines, Spain were Arab Emirates, USSR, UK, USA and Uruguay.

During Expo'75 took place several shows and sailing competitions at the nearby beach. The fairgrounds was also the target of a single-handed sailor regatta, which was launched on September 21, 1975 in San Francisco, as well as a station of Rennes Yacht Los Angeles to Hawaii.

The Expo'75 was officially recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions ( BIE) approved in Paris as a special exhibition with a focus on " Oceans".

After the event has ended, the grounds for the "State Okinawa Memorial Park " was (国 営 冲 縄 记念 公园, kōen Kokuei Okinawa kinen, Eng. Ocean Expo Park ). The Aquapolis was operated until November 1993, when it was closed due to a significant decline in visitor numbers. In 2000, she was finally brought for scrapping to Shanghai.
