Band History

After an after- show party of national preliminary to the Euro Vision Song Contest 2002 Mārtiņš Freimanis had an idea for the 2003 competition: Why not several individual artists have in common?

In autumn 2002, during a golf tournament organized by the Latvian Radio, Mārtiņš Freimanis, Lauris Reiniks and Yana Kay began on a common group think and so FLY was born. Their song Hello from Mars was written by Feimanis and Reiniks and recorded shortly thereafter.

Each member of F.L.Y. has its own successful music career. Yana Kay and Lauris Reiniks are a solo artist who ever released an album while Mārtiņš Freimanis was the lead singer of the band Tumsa Tumsa that recorded three albums.

Kay, Reiniks and Freimanis have all tried several times in the Latvian preliminary rounds, but the breakthrough, that is their opportunity to represent Latvia at the Euro Vision Song Contest, came in 2003 as a group.

After spending a lot of time together during promotion of their song, FLY grew more together and they wrote new songs. The result was an album that was released in May 2003 in Latvia.

Mārtiņš Freimanis died at the age of 33 on January 27, 2011.
