Fabio Leimer

Fabio Leimer ( born April 17, 1989 in Rothrist ) is a Swiss race car driver. In 2009, he won the championship of the International Formula Master. He started from 2010 to 2013 in the GP2 Series for Racing Engineering starting and won the championship in 2013.

Career

After Leimer had started his career in 2000 in karting, he drove in various karting series until 2006. In 2006 he also played in parallel with the commitment in karting, the German Formula BMW in which he started part time for the Team Rosberg. In the Formula BMW World Final, he was moved Leimer 19, 2007 the Swiss team Jenzer Motorsport and launched both in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, as well as in the Italian Formula Renault. In the Italian Formula Renault he reached with two podium finishes eleventh place in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup the 17 championship course.

2008 showed Leimer, who drove now for Jenzer Motorsport in the International Formula Master, an increase in performance and won with three race wins to secure the runner-up title to Chris van der Drift. In addition, Leimer completed in November a GP2 test for Trident Racing. 2009 Leimer denied his second season in the International Formula Master for Jenzer Motorsport. With seven wins in 16 races Leimer won the championship, he had dominated, already a race weekend before the end. He also brought in his seventh win of the record for the most wins in a season IFM. As a reward for his title Leimer took part in a GP2 test day with DAMS.

After winning the championship Leimer was obliged Ocean Racing Technology for the 2009/2010 GP2 Asia Series season. He failed to build on the successes of the International Formula Master and he finished without points to 31 overall. Then the Swiss for Ocean Racing Technology went into the 2010 season, the European GP2 series at the Start.Bereits in the second race at the Circuit de Catalunya decided Leimer his first GP2 race for themselves. Later in the season, however, failed him retract more points. At the end of the season Leimer was on the 19th place in the championship. After he had achieved in the GP2 test drives in November for Rapax, the champion team of the 2010 season, several personal bests, he was taken for the GP2 Asia Series and GP2 Series of Rapax under contract. In the GP2 Asia Series, he scored a second place as best result and finished the season off on the fifth overall. In GP2 Leimer scored only two race weekends points. He won as last season, the sprint race at the Circuit de Catalunya. At the season finale, he finished second. He finished the season in 14th place in the drivers' standings. After the season, he participated for Racing Engineering GP2 Final at 2011. He chose the main race for himself and won the GP2 Final. Then he made his debut in test drives for Sauber in a Formula 1 car.

For the 2012 GP2 season Leimer was finally taken by Racing Engineering under contract. During the sprint race in as- Sachir he lay over long distances in the lead. Since he had ignored yellow flags, but he was penalized with a drive-through penalty and finally came out of the points in twelfth place finish. In Barcelona Leimer lost due to a drive-through penalty again the chance of a podium. In third place lying he was released uncertain at the pit stop from the perspective of race management. He was eventually also in this race twelfth. At Silverstone he missed one more time the possibility of victory. From the pole position starting he was leading the race on a drying track at first. His team decided to conduct the mandatory pit stop as late as possible. However, there was previously a safety car phase of the drivers who had been stopped benefited. Leimer lost after his stop, and eventually became the lead 14 A victory succeeded not in the remaining races of the season. With six podium finishes to Leimer but improved in the drivers' standings to seventh place. Following the GP2 Leimer graduated season for BMW DTM tests.

2013 remained Leimer at Racing Engineering in GP2 series and denied his fourth season in the Championship. At the season opener in Sepang, he won his first major race victory in the GP2 series. An event later in as- Sachir he again won the feature race. After he had remained at six events without a win, he won the feature race at Monza. He again took the lead in the drivers' championship, which he held between time after each race win. At the season finale on the Yas Marina Circuit is Leimer secured with a fourth place finish in the feature race clinched the overall win the GP2 series. With 201 to 181 points he won against Sam Bird. Leimer scored 2013 more than three times as many points as his teammate Julian Leal.
