Fadrique Álvarez de Toledo, 2nd Duke of Alba

Fadrique Álvarez de Toledo y Enríquez de Quiñones, (* 1460, † 1531), 2nd Duke of Alba ( Duque de Alba ) since 1488, Marqués de Coria, Conde de Salvatierra y Piedrahita, Señor de Valdecorneja. He was the son of García Álvarez de Toledo, 1st Duke of Alba, and María Enríquez de Quiñones y Cossines.

Fadrique was closely associated with the Reyes Catolicos (Catholic Kings), Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile, on the one hand, because his father had 1476 active intervention in the battle of Toro, the victory Isabella about her niece Johanna ( Juana la Beltraneja ) brought, on the other hand, because his mother was the sister of Juana Enríquez, the mother of Ferdinand II his niece María de Toledo - the daughter of his brother Fernando Álvarez de Toledo - 1508 marries the son of Christopher Columbus, Diego Columbus, who was in his youth page at the court of Isabella I of Castile and shall be appointed in the year of the marriage of the Catholic Monarchs, the second viceroy of New Spain. Fadrique 1492 took part in the conquest of Granada in 1503 and fought against the French in the Roussillon. When Ferdinand II ruled as regent of Castile to conquer the Kingdom of Navarre ( 1512), he transferred the command of the Duke of Alba, who carried out the job in just two weeks. As a reward, he was appointed Captain-General of Andalusia and Duke of Huéscar 1513. He was first Hofmeister ( Mayordomo mayor ) of Ferdinand and member of the State Council of Charles I., whom he accompanied to Germany, Flanders and Italy. In 1520 he was appointed Grandee of Spain and a member of the Order of the Golden Fleece.

Fadrique Álvarez was 1480 with Isabel de Zúñiga (* 1470, † after 1520), Countess of Sarmiento, married. With her he had five sons, - witnessed even descendants - with the exception of the oldest. Their children were:
