Fahri Korutürk

Fahri Korutürk ( born August 3, 1903 in Istanbul, † October 12, 1987 ) was a Turkish politician, statesman and admiral.

Korutürk initially proposed a military career in the Navy one. From 1916 to 1923 he attended the Naval Academy and then to 1933 the Naval Academy. In the following years, he held various posts and offices, such as a naval attaché in Rome, Berlin and Stockholm. In 1936 he was present at the signing of the Treaty of Montreux. In 1950 he was promoted to admiral and later the Commodore.

After his retirement in 1960 he served as Ambassador in Moscow and Madrid. He became a member of the Senate in 1968. From 6 April 1973 to 6 April Finally in 1980, he was - as the successor of General Cevdet Sunay - the sixth President of the Turkish Republic. Was chosen Korutürk by Parliament as a compromise candidate after the resistance of the major parties had brought the actual favorites of the military leadership, General Faruk Gürler to case. Fahri Korutürk been married since 1944. From the marriage with his wife Emel two sons and a daughter were born. Selah His son and his daughter- Zergün Korutürk entered the diplomatic service in Turkey.
