The Fairbanks (Fairbanks International Airport ) IATA code FAI, ICAO code PAFA, is a civilian commercial airport about 5 km southwest of Fairbanks, the second largest city in the American state of Alaska.

The 1954 finished airport has one terminal building with seven gates in the southeast of the area. Since October 2003, there are concrete plans for the expansion and modernization of the terminal, this is including a new part of the building south of the terminal building to be built and an obsolete part will be dismantled. The construction work should be completed according to site in summer 2009. The only airlines with passenger operations, which operate all year round here according to plan are Era Aviation and Alaska Airlines. The airport is the base of 482 aircraft.

Special

The cargo airline Cargolux has Fairbanks is scheduled as a solid intermediate landing airport only to refuel for certain transatlantic flights; other cargo airlines land here solely for bunkering of fuel. The airport has no train or S- Bahn station. Another special feature is an artificial water surface, which is set for take-offs and landings of seaplanes.
