Fakara

Region

Fakara is a rural municipality in the department of Boboye in Niger.

Geography

The rural community is located at the junction of the Sahel to large landscape Sudan and is located in the dry plain Fakara above the river Niger, to which it does not directly borders. The neighboring municipalities are Kouré in the north, N'Gonga in the northeast, Birni N'Gaouré the southeast, Fabidji in the south and Kirtachi in the West. The municipality is divided into 14 administrative villages, four traditional villages and nine hamlets. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Kobodey (also: Kobedey ).

History

The Zarma settlement Fakara was in the 19th century a relative autonomy from powerful neighbors Dosso and its ruler, the Zarmakoye preserve. The rural community Fakara was created in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the northwestern part of the canton Birni N'Gaouré / Boboye.

Population

At the 2001 census Fakara had 11,796 inhabitants. For the year 2010 15.798 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in a zone is operated in the rain-fed agriculture. By Fakara the National Road 1, which here is part of the international highway Dakar - N'Djamena - Highway runs.
