Fake Peak

The Fake Peak ( German mutatis mutandis: "false summit " ) is a small pre-peak on a ridge next to the Ruth Glacier in Denali National Park in Alaska, USA. It is located about 30 km southeast of the summit of Mount McKinley, the highest mountain in North America.

Frederick Cook put 1906 in front of a photo of Ed Barrills, a member of his expedition, at this summit as evidence of his alleged first ascent of Mount McKinley. A few years later, Robert M. Bryce show that it was now known as the Fake Peak lower summit, which lies below 2000 m altitude and thus 4000-5000 m is lower than Mount McKinley.
