Fakie

Fakie is originally a term from the skateboarding scene to describe skateboarding tricks. Being the reverse movement, in which the rear part ( tail ) of the board is in the same direction. Since similar tricks are found in other board sports, the term has also established itself as for snowboarding, wakeboarding, and skiing.

Difference to switch

The term Fakie should not be confused with the related term switch. Normally, each person has a preferred position on a board. Either the left or the right foot is placed forward. Under Switch is the forward movement of the board with the normal rear foot placed on the front part ( the nose ) of the board.

Snowboarding

In snowboarding, the terms are to be used as a synonym Switch and Fakie because the feet by a bond with the board are tied together and a change of foot position while driving is not possible. The normal driving backwards but called snowboarding usually Fakie. To drive switch, only need the two bonds remounted ( reversed) are.

Skiing

When skiing (especially in the Fun section) is called fakie when the skier goes backwards down the slope. Often the term is used to specify how a ski trick is performed. One can thus move to a trick fakie and / or landing fakie. For these special requirements Trickski have been developed that are bent also at its rear end to offer the advantages of the ski tips in both directions.
