Geography
Sokolov is in the valley of the Floeha. The highest point of the municipality lies at 432 m, the lowest point is the Floeha with 280 m.
Neighboring communities
South of Sokolov is Augustus Castle, west Floeha, Frankenberg north and east Oederan.

History
The first mention Falkenaus as Falkenawe can be traced to the year 1378. From 1453 mainly limestone is broken in place. First, for the Chemnitz city walls and later also for the hunting lodge Augustus castle. Originally created as Waldhufendorf place was largely influenced by the new industrialization in the second half of the 19th century, including through the establishment of a cotton mill.

The population figures show Falkenaus since the turn of a negative trend. Excluded are the years 1995-1997, which were marked by the construction of single-family residential area.

Policy
The municipality Sokolov made since 1995 together with the administrative community Floeha Floeha. Most administrative tasks were therefore perceived by the municipality Floeha. On 29 ( Sokolov ) and June 30 ( Floeha ) municipal and town councils Sokolov and Floeha decided a voluntary merger on 1 October 2011.
In the municipal elections in 2009, the FDP won 5 seats, UBI 4, AUW 2, the SPD and a single candidate per one seat with the merger with Floeha go six former councilors in the City Council Floeha about 3 MPs are as village councils (FDP 2, UBI 1) continue to work by Sokolov and two lay down their mandate.
Culture and sights
Sports
The ski club Sokolov eV is represented at Plau mountain with 300m long ski lift. The gymnastics and sports club Sokolov contains football, athletics, table tennis and volleyball.
Leisure
The Sokolov outdoor pool is in a quiet place near the forest, just 300 m away from the 173 B ( between Floeha and Oederan coming from Chemnitz left).
Attractions
Is the listed Electorate Postmeilensäule Sokolov which was built in Sokolov in 1722 at the confluence of the Ernst- Thalmann Street in the Dresdner Straße.
Upriver located and easy to reach on the bike and hiking trail on the old rail bed, is the Hetzdorfer viaduct. The railway crossing on the Floeha was built in the years 1866 to 1868 as part of the railway line Dresden- Werdau and is with its 17 arches 43 m high and 328 m long.
Another goal is the now heavily weathered chalk pits or holes in Sweden Schweddey Valley between Sokolov and Grünberg.

Traffic
By Sokolov leads the federal highway 173 Dresden- Chemnitz. In the village the branches along the Floeha and Loessnitz valley road leading south from 237 to Eppendorf.
At the railway network of the place with the breakpoint Sokolov South is connected to the railway line Dresden- Werdau and the breakpoint Sokolov to the Flöhatalbahn. In the district Hetzdorf chained to 1968 from the narrow- Lößnitztalbahn after Großwaltersdorf.
