Falkenstein (Thuringia)

The Falkenstein is located southeast of the small town Tambach- Dietharz in the narrow water-based and is the most significant rock formations in the Thuringian Forest. It consists of porphyry (quartz porphyry and porphyry ). His side of the valley is 96 meters high. Its hillside location ( the mountain side has a height of about 25 meters ), he nevertheless falls only when one is almost directly in front of it. Due to its high altitude near the Rennsteig, the climate is also very montane. In 1852 he was climbed for the first time by the Tambacher glassmakers Jacob Zimmermann. Meanwhile there are many climbing routes of varying difficulty. The best way to reach him for a blocked driveway in Schmalwasser ground along the narrow dam water of Tambach -Dietharz by bike or on foot (about 10 km). At the foot of Falkenstein is a mountain rescue hut.
