Falster [ falʔsdəʀ ] is an entity belonging to Denmark 513.76 km ² large island with 42 544 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013). About a third of the residents live in Nykøbing. Falster and the neighboring island of Lolland infrastructure are closely connected to each other and separated only by the narrow Guldborgsund.

Communities

The main towns are Nykøbing, Stubbekøbing and Nørre Alslev. With the municipal reform in Denmark on January 1, 2007, the four former municipalities were merged on Falster with two former municipalities of eastern Lolland to the new Guldborgsund commune in the Region Sjælland. History

Falster is connected to the northern island of Zealand by the Storstrøm, a combined road and railway bridge ( Vogelfluglinie ) on the small island Masnedø.
