Famaillá

Famaillá is the capital of the department Famaillá in the Tucumán Province in northwestern Argentina.

Famaillá is drained by the Río Famaillá, is situated on 339 meters high and has 30 951 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ). The distance to the provincial capital San Miguel de Tucumán is 35 kilometers. Famaillá in Argentina is known as the capital of the empanada.

History

  • On September 19, 1841 was Famaillá scene of the Batalla de Monte Grande, who fought the troops of Juan Manuel de Rosas, under the command of Manuel Oribe against the league del Norte of General Juan Lavalle.
