Farmar Mill

Farmar Mill (also known as Mather Mill ) is a historic mill on the Wissahickon Creek, immediately west of Bethlehem Pike near in the village of White Marsh Fort Washington ( Pennsylvania) is located. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

History

The mill was built in the late 17th century by Edward Farmar.

From 1746 on, was Farmar Mill as well as the nearby manor house situated Hope Lodge on 150 acres large working estate Whitemarsh Estate, desseb was the owner of the Quaker and businessman Samuel Morris. This also had a limestone quarry and lime kiln and a third at the Ironforge Chelsea Forge in today's Warren County (New Jersey). He was one of eight assessors of the Philadelphia County since 1736 and was re-elected three times. After his death, his brother sold the mill together with 4 acres of land to Isaac Mather, who built the present Farmar Mill 1820. The mill was located until the end of the 19th century in use. The current stage of construction permits neither use nor further tour of the historic building.

On May 19, 1972 Farmar Mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
