Fastnet Rock ( Fastnet Rock English, Irish Carraig Aonair ( "lone rock " ) ) is a small island at the southernmost point before Ireland's coast. It is located 6.5 km southwest of the Cape Clear Island Iceland, which in turn lies 13 km off the coast of County Cork. The rock rises 30 feet beyond the low tide.

The small rocky island is still divided by a narrow ditch. The much smaller and flatter Little Fastnet has been nicknamed tear (English Teardrop ) because it was the last country in the 19th century saw the Irish emigrating to America from their homeland.

The Fastnet Rock is the turning point for the famous Fastnet race for ocean-going yachts from Cowes to Plymouth via 608 nautical miles. The rock is geologically from a slate with granite veins. The lighthouse is the highest in Ireland (54 m).
