Fat pad sign

The fat pad sign is a radiographic signs, which can be useful for detecting a fracture or an occult fracture.

It is the depiction of normal anatomic fat deposits around joints as whitening strip. Depending on the skeletal region, these fat deposits are visible in healthy or not. A shift or the appearance of a joint effusion indicates a fracture.

The most famous character is the fat pad at the elbow.
