Fatih Mosque, Istanbul

The Fatih Mosque ( Fatih Camii Turkish, German conquerors Mosque ) is a mosque in Istanbul's Fatih. It is named after the conqueror of Constantinople, Sultan Mehmed II, named.

On the Building of the Fatih Mosque, a prominent protruding out of the city hill, stood the Church of the Apostles, the second largest church in the city that served as the seat of the Patriarchate in the first years after the Turkish conquest. At the request of the Sultan towards the seat of the Patriarchate was transferred to the Pammakaristos Church, so that could be started after the demolition of the Apostles Church in 1461 with the construction of the Fatih Mosque. The Church of the Apostles was a ruin since the 4th crusade.

Sultan Mehmed II is buried in the Turbe of the mosque complex.
