Fatimah Hashim

Tun Fatimah Hashim ( born December 25, 1924 in Kampung Parit Kurma, Muar, Johor, † January 9, 2010 in Kuala Lumpur ) was a Malaysian politician.

Biography

After schooling at Sekolah Perempuan Melayu Mersing in Johor, she worked as a teacher.

Her political career began in 1947 with the entry into the United Malays National Organisation ( UMNO ). In September 1956, she was chairman of the UMNO Hardly Ibu movement, today the Wanita UMNO -called women's movement of the party. This office she held until June 1972.

On May 20, 1969, she was appointed as the Minister of Welfare, the government of Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman and was holding office under his successor, Abdul Razak until 1 March 1973., You became the first Minister of Malaysia. Her husband Abdul Karim Abdul Kadir, a former attorney general was, at that time Minister of Justice and Minister for National Development, so that they were also the first couple in a Malaysian government.

On 19 August 2009 she was honored as one of four outstanding Malaysians with the Merdeka Award for education and community.
