Fatululic

Fatululic ( Fatululik, Fatu - Lulik, Fatolulic, Fatulilic, Fatululique ) is the capital of East Timor subdistrict Fatululic and Sucos Fatululic in the district of Cova Lima.

The name

With Fatu characteristic of Timor cliffs are called (derived from Tetumwort Fatuk for " rock "). The word Lulic (or lulik ) means " holy." " Fatululic " actually means " sacred rock " or " sacred rock ". Southeast of the Sucos Fatululic is the Foho Taroman, the highest with 1744 m mountain in the Cova Lima district. He formerly served as a place for animistic rites.

The place

The place is located in the north of Fatululic Sucos same name, 86 km as the crow flies south-west of the state capital of Dili and about 19 ​​km northwest of Suai at the altitude of 1348 m.

The Suco

Geography

Fatululic forms the western part of the sub-district and has an area of ​​21.42 km ². To the east is the also the subdistrict belonging Suco Taroman, south of the subdistrict Fohorem with its Sucos Dato Rua, Lactos and Dato Tolu. To the north lies the Indonesian West Timor. The border river to the neighboring state is the Lelosi, a tributary of the Tarafa.

An overland road leads across in an east-west direction through the Suco and connects the small towns Beco ( Beko ), Beidasi, Fatululic and Aitoun with the outside world. In Aitoun and Beidasi ( Escola Primaria Beidasi ) is in each case a primary school. Despite the overland road had 2007, the ballot boxes are delivered and picked up by helicopter to the polling station in elementary school Beidasi for the parliamentary elections in East Timor.

In Suco are the three aldeias Aitoun, Beco and Beidasi.

Population

The Suco has 564 inhabitants (2010, 2004: 549 ). About 95 % of the population give Bunak as their native language. Small minorities speak Tetum Prasa or Habun.

Policy

In elections in May 2005, 90 women were elected to the Sucoräte Cova Lima for the first time. That's about three women per village. In Fatululic was Lusia Guterres ( Lucia Gutteres, * 1982 ) as the first woman ever elected to Cova Lima to the boss of a Sucos. The mother of three beat off four other candidates, even though she was a member of an opposition party and not the then dominant FRETILIN. About the film she was Lusia - A daughter of Fatululik rotated. In the election on 9th October 2009 won Lourenço da Cruz.

The subdistrict

The subdistrict Fatululic is in the northwest Cova Lima. The river Lelosi forms the north, the border with Indonesia and East to the subdistrict Maucatar. In the south and west lies the subdistrict Fohorem.

Fatululic divided into two Sucos: Fatululic and Taroman.

In the sub-district 1,894 people live (2010, 2004: 1,814 ). This Fatululic is the subdistrict of East Timor with the smallest population. The largest language group consists of the speakers of the national language Bunak. The average age is 17.5 years ( 2010, 2004: 16.3 years ).

55 % of households in Fatululic grow coffee, cassava 58%, 59 % corn, 51 % vegetables, 45 % coconut and 17 % rice.

History

Taroman was one of the Timorese small kingdom which was ruled by a Liurai. According to oral tradition, it was subordinated to the realm of Fohorem and tribute.

Both Sucos Fatululics belonged to the exclave of Maucatar, by the Treaty of Lisbon ( 1859) was the Netherlands subordinate. Maucatar was connected only by a narrow strip in the north with the rest, Dutch territory. All around lay Timorese kingdoms that were associated with Portugal. Although there were in 1904 an agreement between the colonial powers, the Maucatar should be ceded to the Portuguese, but until 1916 it passed into Portuguese possession.

The mountain Taroman was from 1976, a retreat for the Falintil who fought against the Indonesian invaders. Here they established a base de apoio, a resistance base, offered refuge for refugees from Cova Lima. Later the base was destroyed by the Indonesians.
