Faust and Marguerite is an American silent film from 1900. Directed by Edwin S. Porter. The film was released on 28 February 1900.

Movie Plot

Marguerite ( Gretchen ) sitting in front of a fireplace, is located near her own. A little later, Mephisto enters the room of the two and want to fist give a sword to kill Marguerite so. Fist fights from this. Then Mephisto Marguerite wants to kill herself, she changes into Faust, who also disappears. A skeleton appears in its place. Finally, Mephisto is left alone. At the end of a priest and Marguerite and Faust appear to be married.

Background information

This film is the first American film version of the story of Johann Faust. The film does not tell the story of Faust, but used their motives, to demonstrate the then new techniques and possibilities of film. However, the film itself is not the oldest film adaptation of Faust substance. Georges Méliès turned already in 1897 with the film Faust et Marguerite, the first version.
