Faustin Twagiramungu

Faustin Twagiramungu (* 1945 in the province of Cyangugu ) is a Rwandan politician who belongs to the ethnic group of Hutu.

From 1994 until his abdication in 1995, he was appointed the first Prime Minister of Rwanda after the Rwandan Patriotic Front had captured Kigali. After his resignation, he spent nearly a decade after Belgium into exile.

In the presidential elections of 2003 Twagiramungu was set up as an independent candidate. In his manifesto he sat mainly for full employment and a progressive taxation. He accused the government, they suppress his views in public. In the final count, he finished with 3.65 % of the vote in second place behind his challenger Paul Kagame. He challenged this result to first and complained that the new incumbent would lead the country into a one-party system.

In the 1960s, he graduated from the University of Québec.
